CATS AND DOGS MOVIE NIGHT

A good time was had by all at Central Elementary School on September 12 as we all gathered to enjoy the movie "Cats and Dogs". The evening was made possible by The Albemarle Downtown Development Corporation. A big thank you to the sponsors, Chambers Engineering, PA, The Central Elementary School Bullpups & Stanly Regional Medical Center. Thank you to Harmanco's for providing a certificate as our prize in the drawing held that night.

Aside from an enjoyable evening out with their families, the evening helped to raise awareness about stray/abandoned animals in our area. Thanks to all the families who donated pet food to feed animals currently in foster homes. The Stanly County Animal Rescue League's work is possible with this much needed community support.

If I Didn't Have a Dog or a Cat...

I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety.

My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated.

All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be
 Free of hair.

When the doorbell rings, it wouldn't sound like a kennel.

When the doorbell rings, I could get to the door without
Wading through fuzzy bodies who beat me there.

I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted,
Without taking into consideration how much space
Several fur bodies would need to get comfortable.

I would have money and no guilt to go on a real vacation.

I would not be on a first-name basis with 6 veterinarians,
As I put their yet unborn grand kids through college.

The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out,
Sit, down, come, no, stay, and leave him/her/it ALONE.

My house would not be cordoned off into zones with
 Baby gates or barriers.
I would not talk 'baby talk'.  'Eat your din din'.
 'Yummy yummy for the tummy'..

My house would not look like a day care center, toys
 Everywhere.

My pockets would not contain things like poop bags,
 Treats and an extra leash.

I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L,
 F-R-I-S-B-E- E, W-A-L-K, T-R-E-A-T, B-I-K-E, G-O, R-I-D-E

I would not have as many leaves (or pine needles) INSIDE my house as outside.

I would not look strangely at people who think having ONE
Dog/cat ties them down too much.

I'd look forward to spring and the rainy season instead
 Of dreading 'mud' season.

I would not have to answer the question 'Why do you have
So many animals?' from people who will never have the joy
In their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionally by
Someone as close to an angel as they will ever get.

How EMPTY my life would be!!!

BADIN FESTIVAL

In spite of a gloomy forecast & slightly thinner crowds Badin Festival held on Sept. 18 & Sept. 19 was a wonderful event. Our thanks go out to Karen Lowder, Torey Revels & all the volunteers for making it such a success for us & all the vendors. The Stanly County Animal Rescue League raised over $400 at the event to continue our work /w/ stray animals in the County. But, even more important we are always thrilled to meet folks who have adopted from us in years past & the opportunity to speak /w/ folks about their 4-legged friends & spread the important message about spaying/neutering pets.

One of our favorite people, Hannah L. from Badin came by our booth to say hello & to drop off her annual donation "to help the animals". Hannah saves her change all year and for the past several years has donated it to us. This year she saved & donated $66.50!!! Thanks Hannah, you're the "cats meow".

"I once decided not to date a guy because he wasn't excited to meet my dog. I mean, this was like not wanting to meet my mother."

- Bonnie Schacter, Founder of the Single Pet Owner's Society Singles Group

FASHION SHOW AT MAURICE'S

SCARL pups strutted down the runway with the beautiful models @ Maurices on Sept. 26 in participation of Maurices Rescue's & Runways 1st annual event to help local animal rescue. Thanks to store manager, Kay Jones and her staff over $100 was raised as a result of the event /w/ many bags of donated food & supplies. The members/volunteers of The Stanly County Animal Rescue League deeply appreciate & thank them for their efforts.

Did you know?

The nose pad of a cat is ridged in a pattern that is unique, just like the fingerprint of a human.

UPDATE!!!

Hi, this is AJ.  I have found a wonderful family.  I am just a big baby here.  I get lots of love filled in with discipline.  I stay outside most of the time, but I do slip inside from time to timeand check things out.  I have to make sure everything is okay.  I love to get on the furniture and lay down.  That's the best part.   I have a playmate called Dixie (Yorkie) we love to play together.  I have attached some pictures for you to see how happy I am here.  Thank you for taking good care of me so that I could find a great place to live.

AJ

Rescue Pup

I was born in the summer a few years ago;
Quite why I was born I never will know.
Some folks owned my mother; decided to breed ...
No reason I know of except for their greed.

I know I was hungry, I know I was cold
And they sold me quite early,at just five weeks old.

Owners number one seemed friendly at first
And life was quite good, until my bubble burst.
They started to argue;their marriage split up
And in went the ad, for sale 4 month pup.

Some more folks arrived, the next ones in line ...
They treated me kindly, and life was just fine.
But the master dropped dead, and she couldn't cope
So they sold me again as I began to lose hope.

I now had a new homeup in the sky ...
We went up the lift, fourteen floors high.
The new folks were kind, but they left me all day.
I was busting to pee, and had no where to play.

It was boredom, I think, when I chewed up that chair.
They agreed I should go,but it just wasn't fair.

The next home was good and I thought this was it ...
They started to show, and I won ... well ... a bit.
Then somebody told them that I had "no bone,"
And in went the ad, for sale to good home.

The next lot were dreadful... they wanted a guard,
But I didn't know that ... although I tried hard.
One night they got burgled and I didn't bark,
Tied up in that shed, alone in the dark.

For four months I lay in that cold dark shed
With only an old paper sack for a bed,
A small dish of water all slimy and green ...
The state I was in, well, it had to be seen.

I longed for some help, for an end to the pain.
Then some new people came, and I went off again.

So now I'm with Rescue, and this home is good!
There are walks in the country and lots of good food...
There are kisses and cuddles to greet me each day
And I dread the time that they send me away.

But for now here I stand, skin and bone, on all fours...
Please don't let this happen to any of yours!
