What Happened in January?

2.  Hogan, now known as Dylan left for his new home in Matthews.

7.  Staying closer to home, Camo went to his new home in Albemarle.

8.  Abby was adopted & will be living with her new family in Locust.  Axel & Simba were lucky enough to be adopted together and will be staying with their new family in Albemarle.

9.  Cookie & Coco were adopted by a great family and will be residing in Burlington.  Today was also the day that Rollo went with his new family from Clemmons.

11.  About to sniff out a good story in Western Stanly, the newshound Rico,  was adopted today.  A little too much for his new home with a baby, Camo was returned.

12. Brought in 2 puppies who were found when their mother was hit by a car.

13. A puppy that was an unwanted Christmas present was taken into foster care...remember, do NOT give an animal as a present for another person!  If they want a pet, they will get one.  At the very least, let them pick the pet out themselves.

16.  Camo was adopted...again...we are sure this Charlotte family must have been who he was "supposed" to be with in the first place!  Katse also found herself a new home today, in Misenheimer.

.20. Brought in two puppies found in Albemarle.

22. Samantha was adopted and will be living in Palestine.   Alex was picked up by his new family, also.

23.  Sneaky Zeke, now known more appropriately as Cletus left the adopt-a-pet with his new family headed to Statesville.

25.  Brought in 2 more puppies found in Rock Creek Park.

29.  Kassie has left foster care on her way to a great forever home in Greensboro.

Hi,

Just thought that I would let you know that Sadie (formerly known as Pretty Sadie) is now 20 weeks old and is now weighing in at 40 pounds.  That is an average of three pounds a week. She now plays soccer outside with an old basketball as well as chasing the rabbits outside.  She has learned some commands as well, such as sit, stay, and lay down.  We are working on others to teach her also.

She is still very active and very playful. She enjoys spending most of the time outside, but when she comes in she likes to sleep in the bed.  She now will cover herself up with the blanket at night to go to sleep.  She has also learned that when people come to the door that she is supposed to meet them.  She has even attempted to open the door for them.  She doesn't bark but likes to jump on them.

All of her shots are up to date as well as being on monthly heartworm prevention and flea and tick medicine. We just wanted to send you some pictures of her to show how she has grown.

We were very happy to hear that Quasar was finally adopted. If he is as intelligent as she is then they will love him the way we love her.

Thanks,

Arlene Shelton

Did you know?

A cat's heart beats twice as fast as a human heart, at 110 to 140 beats per minute.

Hello again!

It's been a while since I've filled you in on how Dobby (pronounced like "Robbie" with a D)(formerly known as Linus) is doing...  In October he officially became a big brother to a small Pomeranian, Oliver.  My husband got Oliver for my birthday in the middle of the month and the two dogs have absolutely become the best of friends.  Dobby also has a few other neighborhood friends to play with each day:  Vanilla, a yellow Lab, Jade, a chocolate Lab, and Keyser (pronounced like a lava geyser but with a K), a HUGE but totally lovable Rottweiler.  Dobby and Oliver also go with us a couple minutes down the road to my parent's house quite often and have grown fond of their Australian Shepherd, Jennie, and their Chihuahua, Tootsie.  Dobby is really quite the socialite and I love that about him.  He is such a smart dog.  He sits, shakes, and goes "up" (sits up on his back legs) on command and is a big help when it comes to working some of the energy out of Oliver.

Dobby has truly become another son to me.  He is a 47 pound mama's boy and I still hold him like I did when we brought him home as a puppy!

Sorry to ramble on so terribly but I just really want you to know that we appreciate so much you taking in Dobby from the start so that we were lucky enough to find and adopt him.  I really look forward to finishing school and getting a bigger place so that we'll be able to adopt more some day!

Thanks for all that you do for SCARL and for giving us Dobby!

Jessie

***The first couple of pictures are from October when we first brought Oliver home to meet his big brother, Dobby.  The last few are from very recently and are of Dobby being a mama's boy and of him and Oliver showing off some of their tricks. Enjoy!***

I just wanted to update you... I am pleased to report that Scout (formerly known as Rollo) is doing
very well. I think he loves us as much as we love him. (If chewing on you =
love). LOL

We took him to our new vet the other day and everything turned out great!
Scout was a big hit and received lots of attention. According to Dr. Fox he
is as healthy as he is cute. (I am pleased with the vet's service - everyone
was very helpful and they took their time with us). While we were there he
received his distemper shot and didn't even check up. He was distracted with
a couple of treats. He seems to be growing and eating well, he weighed in at
15 lb 10 oz. He is currently eating close to 4 cups of puppy chow a day.
I think he will amount to a sizable dog, which is what we wanted.

He still loves his crate and sleeps through the night with out a whimper.
In fact when he gets tired of playing he just walks into the crate and gets
comfy. Get this (not all or always) but he gathers up his toys and brings
them with him. It's the funniest thing - Like one of us humans is going to
chew on his stuff and he's not going to have that!

I can't wait until he learns the meaning of NO (biting everything) and COME,
because when he is playing out in the yard he will play until he is done.
I didn't realize how out of shape I was until I found my self out of breath
trying to catch him. (I think he thinks it's a game - and it is).

All in all we couldn't be happier with Scout, he is friendly with everyone
even with the other dogs he has met in the neighborhood and with in the
family.

I attached a couple of photos of him.

Thank you for everything

Best regards,
Dan

Hi

We are Keri and Thomas McLeod, of Concord, and we adopted a young pup in October named Jack.  When we adopted him, Jack was a 10wk old, 12lb Hound/Husky mix.  3 months later, Jack (now Jackson), is slightly over 40lbs and getting bigger by the day!  We have found out from our vet that he is most likely an American Foxhound, but the Husky in him is still undetermined as of yet.  He is still very quiet and docile most of the time, and is usually very timid around people.  He is, however, very fond of other animals, and his hound-dog nose will smell them for miles around!  Jackson spends most of his day relaxing in the house, typically within 10 feet of one of us.  He still has some separation anxiety issues, but other than that, he has a wonderful attitude and I wouldn't change anything about him.  It makes me feel so good at the end of the workday to come home to find he is just as excited to see me as I am excited to see him!  Thank you for all that you do for so many wonderful animals, and thank you for providing the opportunity for us to give Jackson a loving home.  I'm sure he appreciates it as much as you do!

The first two images are of Jackson the day we adopted him and brought him home

The third image is the three of us around Thanksgiving time

The fourth image is Jackson playing with a friend from the neighborhood

The last image is Jackson this evening. Almost 6 mos and 42lbs (img_3084)

 Regards,

 Thomas and Keri

Sneaky Zeke, now known as Cletus in his new home...

and with one of his new best friends, Ruger.
